Past leadership programmes
Our thematic Wider Europe & Central Asia fellowship programmes give participants a chance to gain insights into the values, ways of working and challenges faced by people and institutions in the UK, and to connect with counterparts and learn from each other’s work.
The programmes comprise a series of online workshops followed by a residential programme in the UK. Each Fellow participates in a core programme of group trainings, workshops and visits and has an individually tailored programme of meetings related to their fellowship project. After completing the programme, participants join the collaborative community of JST Fellows and have the opportunity to participate in network activities.
Last year, we welcomed a new cohort of Fellows to our thematic Wider Europe and Central Asia fellowship, bringing together emerging leaders working across the public, non-profit and private sectors with a shared focus on climate action and environmental sustainability.
The cohort included professionals from public administration, civil society, media, research and business, united by their commitment to addressing the environmental challenges facing their countries and regions — from climate resilience and energy transition to sustainable governance and green skills.
What stayed with me most was how leadership, policy, and energy systems intersect in practice. From leadership sessions with BBC professional trainers Sam Whipple and Jane Kinghorn on presence and persuasion, to geopolitics of energy with Professor Rick Fawn and Dr Matteo Fumagalli on Eurasia, infrastructure, and security, the programme consistently linked personal leadership with real-world systems.
